I met SAUR this past summer at one of the biggest Music Festivals on Earth… Electric Zoo!!!
City Chic, Electric Zoo, House Music, Interviews, Personal Style, Saur
I always get excited when meeting people that are in love with music and fashion as much as I am. I was introduced to SAUR on the way to Electric Zoo when I found out that he produces music on his free time. In the past year Igor, a.k.a. SAUR, has risen so fast that his remix of one of my favorite songs Barbra Streisand has had him featured on more then 20 House Music Blogs. His music gets about 45,000 downloads a week. He’s got this hipster like swagga mixed with an “I just threw some things together” attitude which make his style easy on the eyes. He may never admit to it, but he has serious style. Therefore I chose to feature him on our special edition of City Chic X an Exclusive Interview.
SAUR’S Style

Exclusive Interview

The 949: What does SAUR stand for?
SAUR : Growing up I always drew this one signature cartoon dinosaur, so when picking a producer/DJ name I thought of cutting out the Dino part and just leaving the SAUR. Initially it was pronounced like ‘sawr’ yet everyone kept calling me ‘sour.’ I simultaneously grew tired of correcting people and began liking this new pronunciation and then one day I just stuck with it.
The 949: If you could raid any one’s closet, whose closet would you raid and why?
SAUR: I’d have to say it would be my friend Davis’s closet. He has enough Dior clothing that if I took it all, I would be set for life!
The 949: What role does fashion play in your life?
SAUR: I never really thought about that…I guess it’s a subtle role that’s always in the back of my mind. I love music and other forms of art because you’re able to create something that’s unique to you. I don’t think fashion is any different. Although I’m not a fashion designer or anything, I wear what I like and reflects on my personality.
The 949: Based upon your latest photoshoot and a real life meeting I feel that you’re curious and have a keen eye for fashion. How do you feel fashion and music come together?
SAUR: Haha well thank you! I think fashion and music have been intermingling for a long time. You have artists like Jay Z and J Lo starting their own brands and fashion companies while recruiting musicians for special lines. Like when H&M had artists create designs for their Fashion Against AIDS campaign. Tiga actually created an awesome hoodie for them! I feel that because of the music download revolution, musicians can’t just rely on music sales as steady income (unless you’re Lady Gaga). So the industry is evolving and musicians are becoming entrepreneurs in ways they probably wouldn’t have predicted. Live shows are taking up a much bigger portion of their income pie and fashion is another way to get their name and brand out there. Also, whether they like it or not, fashion does play a role in how artists are perceived by the public. That doesn’t mean that every musician needs to start dressing according to what they think will get them noticed, but it does mean that they should realize that their sense of fashion. Fashion is just another way of representing their style and image.
The 949: Have you ever been or do you feel like you are a member of a subculture?
(e.i. punk, hippie, hispter)
SAUR: Yeah…I never consciously try, but for some reason I always get labeled as a hipster! I still haven’t figured out what exactly a hipster means, but I do know that it’s probably because I wear skinny jeans and frames that are a bit thicker than normal.  Maybe my lack of self-proclamation as a hipster makes me a hipster? Or would a hipster acknowledge their hipster-ness and just not care? It’s so confusing!
The 949: What unique and unpublicized facts would you like our readers to know about you?
SAUR: I’m a giant nerd. I love science, coffee and cheese! I also love to read, especially by babbling brooks. That may sound corny but the alliteration there is just too good. Honestly, if I ever see a picture of a babbling brook my first thought is to sit down and pick up a book. There would have to be lots of trees around too, just for some shade.

The 949: 2011 has just begun, what’s next for SAUR?
SAUR: New productions and much more Dj’ing! I just started getting into this new genre of music called Moombahton. If Reggaeton and House/Dirty Dutch had a baby, this would be it. Hopefully I will be producing more Electro/Dirty Dutch tracks, as well as Moombahton. Recently my music was picked up by the massive Beat Junks blog and has clocked in over 30,000 downloads in less than a week. I’m hoping that my music will continue to spread around the world.
