The 949: What strides has CoCo and Breezy made since we last spoke in February of 2010?
C&B: We have received more magazine press. Currently, we are working on our new collection called Wearable Art. This collection incorporates accessories, not just eyewear. In addition, we have been doing a lot of motivational speaking at difference colleges. All in all, its have been crazy yet amazing.
The 949: How has CoCo and Breezy developed as a line of eyewear within the last year?
C&B: We have definitely branded ourselves. Now embellished eyewear is extremely popular. If anyone sees this type of eyewear they think it is CoCo and Breezy. Our next venture is accessories, we like to keep people guessing and intrigued. We are very business minded and not worried about others.
The 949: With more and more exposure to fashion, would you say your sense of styles have developed or changed? If so how
C&B: I wouldn’t say that our sense of style has changed but we always reinvent ourselves every couple of months. We have been doing this for a while. We always change our hair, have a new tattoo, piercing or the way that we wear our clothes. We just turned 20 years old so we are mixing our styles
The 949: With rising success, do you still have to defend your edgy and futuristic sense of styles?
C&B: People respect our style more. CoCo and I have made a big impact in fashion by being edgy and futuristic. The edgy look is getting a little cliché, however people have to understand that this has been our lifestyle forever. We reinvent ourselves to give people something to copy. We have always been bringing editorial to the street. There is a difference between a hot mess and edgy. People are playing arts and crafts now a days. I don’t want fashion to turn into arts and crafts, just be a true artist.
The 949: We see that the line has expanded into clothing and jewelry. How have your consumers responded to this?
C&B: I think that are consumers are actually really excited for us. We feel that we can’t give people too much at one time. People know our story line because they respect our art. Adding accessories gives our buyers a little at a time. We are the designers that start the trends and people then follow. Everyone already expect something crazy so they are really excited about our accessories and anxious for our clothes.
The 949: What was the inspiration behind the “20 20” and “Planet C and B” story?
C&B: That story line is a fictional version of our real life story. It revolves around C and B who live in their own world. We discover our own planet we wear our eyewear all the time. If we take our eyewear off we see a blank space, which represents people who are jaded by fashion. For us, growing up being different was very difficult. Knowing that people stare at us for negative reasons affected us through out the years. We can share our story and the fact that having our eyewear on makes us feel so confident, as if we are in our own world. “We block our eyes from the world”
The 949: We are excited to see that CoCo and Breezy is now being sold online in Paris and Japan? What does it feel like to be international designers?
C&B: It is a blessing.! We aren’t satisfied because we can’t get complacent. We worked so hard for this.
The 949: What pair CoCo and Breezy eyewear has been a constant top seller and why
C&B: Our gold liners, they are simple and edgy. Thy are also are at a good price point.
The 949: What is in store for upcoming lines?
C&B: We are using lots of neons opposed a darker feel from earlier lines. The story line on Wearable art is that we are taking planet C and B to a new city. There the skies are blue and black and art is always growing in the sky. We grab the art and throw it on our eyes. People call it bracelets, we call it wearable art. There is also a belt that can be worn as a necklace and bracelet. Very outside the box!
The 949: Words if inspirations.
Make sure you have a passion for what you want to do! Go for what you love. Fashion is the new thing right now, but if you don’t love it don’t do it.
